Roof Connections

There are various ways to attach a roof system to Greenblock. Determining which method to use will be influenced by what area of the country you build in, wind conditions, etc.

Inset treated sill plate:

  • One of the most energy efficient methods, Greenblock’s foam on each side creates an outstanding thermal barrier.
  • When pouring, scoop out concrete at the top of the wall and level to 1½” below the top of the form
  • Install anchor bolts according to local code
  • Install a treated 2x plate with foam sill sealer in between sill and concrete
  • Install trusses or rafters according to local code

Half inset treated sill plate:

This is the method used when added bearing is required on outside edge of the wall. For Instance, a flat gable truss.

  • When pouring, scoop out concrete at the top of the wall and level to 1½” below the top of the form, cutting away the top 1½” portion of the outside foam panel edge
  • Use taper top forms to provide extra concrete bearing on the outside edge, if needed
  • Install anchor bolts according to local code
  • Install a treated 2x plate with foam sill sealer in between sill and concrete; set the outer edge of the sill so that the sheathing will be flush with the wall
  • Install trusses or rafters according to local code

Top mounted treated sill plate –

Sometimes taper top forms are used

  • Ensure concrete is flush with top of form
  • Check to ensure it is level
  • Install anchor bolts according to local code
  • Install a treated 2x, on foam sill sealer or gasket and then bolt down
